Mr. Karan Patil | 34 year-old, Male | Sales Manager

Concern / Complaint

Karan visited Dermatrix after experiencing progressive hair loss over the past 4–5 years. Initially, he noticed mild thinning around the temples, which gradually developed into a receding hairline. Over time, the thinning extended towards the crown, creating visible gaps and reduced density. Despite trying over-the-counter shampoos and supplements, his condition did not improve. The continuous hair loss started affecting his self-image, making him feel conscious in both personal and professional settings. He expressed a strong desire to regain a fuller, natural-looking hairline and restore his confidence.

History

Karan first noticed mild hair shedding in his late 20s, which gradually progressed despite trying topical lotions and dietary changes. A family history of baldness was present on his father’s side, with similar patterns of hair loss in male relatives. He had no major medical conditions, did not smoke, and maintained a moderately active lifestyle. His past attempts included herbal oils and anti-hair fall shampoos, none of which provided lasting improvement.

Diagnosis

After a detailed scalp analysis and trichoscopy, Karan was diagnosed with Advanced Male Pattern Baldness (Androgenetic Alopecia), classified as Norwood Grade V. The assessment revealed significant thinning in the frontal and crown regions, while the donor area at the back of the scalp retained strong, healthy follicles suitable for transplantation. Blood investigations ruled out nutritional deficiencies or hormonal disorders, confirming that the hair loss was primarily hereditary in nature.

Treatment Plan

Karan was advised to undergo Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Hair Transplant. A total of 3,200 grafts were planned to restore the frontal hairline and crown density. The strategy included designing a natural hairline, ensuring proper graft distribution, and supplementing the transplant with oral medication and PRP sessions for better follicle survival.

Procedure

Under local anesthesia, individual follicular units were extracted from the donor area at the back of the scalp. Each graft was carefully implanted into the thinning frontal and crown regions, following the natural growth angle. The session lasted about 6 hours, with minimal discomfort reported.

Outcome

By the 3rd month, Karan experienced reduced shedding and the first signs of new hair growth. At 6 months, significant coverage was visible in the frontal hairline, temple, and crown regions, with improved density and texture. By 12 months, over 90% of the transplanted grafts had successfully grown, blending seamlessly with his natural hair. The hairline appeared natural, with no visible scarring, and the crown showed fuller coverage. Beyond the physical transformation, Karan reported a remarkable boost in confidence, he felt more comfortable in professional settings and interacted more freely in social gatherings.
