Ganesh Darekar | 50 years old, Male | Government Officer
Concern
Ganesh visited Dermatrix after noticing continuous hair thinning and bald patches developing over the past 6–7 years. The hair loss began at the temples and gradually spread across the frontal and mid-scalp areas, leaving noticeable gaps and uneven density. He had experimented with various treatments including serums and herbal remedies, but none delivered lasting results. As someone working in a public-facing role, he began to feel increasingly self-conscious about his appearance. Concerned about his image and confidence, he sought a long-term solution to restore a youthful hairline and natural look.
History
The patient had been experiencing progressive hair loss for over a decade. He also had a known case of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, which was initially uncontrolled. As part of our perioperative management, we worked closely with his healthcare provider to stabilize his blood sugar levels before proceeding with surgery.
Diagnosis
Androgenetic Alopecia – Norwood Grade V
Adequate donor area with good follicular density
No signs of scalp infections or contraindications to transplantation
Treatment Plan
Procedure Chosen: Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
Total Grafts: 5,890 grafts
Target Zones: Frontal hairline, mid-scalp, and crown
Medical Optimization: Controlled diabetes prior to surgery
Counseling: Pre-operative planning and realistic outcome discussion
Procedure
The procedure was completed over two consecutive days, under local anesthesia, using the FUE technique.
Day 1: 3,000 grafts focused on the frontal hairline and mid-scalp
Day 2: 2,890 grafts placed in the crown and surrounding areas
Intraoperative Monitoring: Regular blood sugar checks and wound care due to diabetes
Postoperative Care: Comprehensive medication protocol, hygiene guidance, and follow-up monitoring
Outcome
By the 3rd month, Ganesh observed reduced hair fall and the early growth of new hair along his hairline. At 6 months, he had visible improvement in hair density across the frontal and mid-scalp areas, with healthy texture. By 12 months, more than 90% of the grafts had successfully grown in, resulting in a natural and fuller appearance. The implanted hair blended flawlessly, with no scarring or patchiness. Ganesh expressed great satisfaction with the transformation, noting that his confidence had been restored and he felt more positive in day-to-day life.
Feedback
This experience truly changed my life. I was worried about the risks because of my diabetes, but the doctors handled everything with care. The healing was smooth, and the results are beyond what I imagined. I feel younger and much more confident now.
